So im partly to blame for the current spawn protection we have, I remember a while back I reported how snipers can still bypass spawn protection as soon as you shot a bullet and since then it got changed shortly after to what we have now.
But the new spawn protection we have now is definetly not good either and its not just because "oh no i have to wait a timer out to kill the player" but rather the fact that sometimes the invinsibility frames will be a whole second off or on after the timer goes out and when you're fighting in a skilled player that single second of unfairness means an L or W, I talked to a few people with just my single day back and they all agree that it sucks both competative and casual.
Now heres my suggestion, something very straight forward and simple.
If on ground, make it so you spawn in passive, so there's your spawn protection for those that need it, but then make it so as soon as you interact with your weapon wheel it removes passive and you can both be shot at and shot others. This way players who simply dont want to fight just dont take out a weapon and those who do dont have to stress over the unreliable spawn protection we have now. But definetly if possible make it so if you kill yourself then you respawn out of passive because I can see a few ways people would still complain about it including myself. Outside of that this would benefit everyone, if you wanna shoot then get ready to also get shot, if you dont wanna shoot then you wont get shot. Everyone wins!
If you spawn in a vehicle weather its weaponized or not just keep it the way it is now, that way you cant just get instant shot by a surprised tank. Honestly thats the only good place where the current spawn protection is. Also where are the cooldowns for overpowered vehicles even if its just 30 seconds, you shouldnt be allowed to spam spawn tanks and jets.
