I'd like to suggest a slightly different way of using manual in races. If its denied please still consider a similar system for the future.
Like Forza and common racing games, instead of manual in voting screen, create an option in player's settings > gameplay for 'Races Shift Mode'. (this means removing manual from voting)
Races Shift Mode <Automatic>
Races Shift Mode <Manual> (multiplies car's earned RP as a bonus)
Races Shift Mode <Manual Clutch> (multiples RP even more)
Balancing concerns:
From what I understand, in an ideal perfect shifts scenario, cars are faster using Manual because of GTA Physics™.
If that is true, to counter it you can:
- add a shift delay for Manual (in neutral longer) so its still faster than Auto but not as much.
- add a shorter delay for Manual Clutch so its slightly faster than Manual.
- reduce the window for perfect shifts to make it harder.
While the average player can use Auto as default, this creates an incentive to learn a new skill and become quicker, while also leveling up your cars faster.
